Overview

The BOINC project releases pre-compiled clients for the participants to download and each project provides pre-compiled applications to perform the distributed scientific analysis.

However, because BOINC is open source, participants are not restricted to the official releases and are free to download the BOINC source and compile their own client applications.

In addition, some projects develop their science applications as open source and this source is also available for download and modification by participants.

Objective

Discuss the benefits and drawbacks of 'open sourcing' science applications with your team members.

Download the science application source code from a project and:

1. Try to build a science application;
2. Implement your build of the science application into your BOINC client.
